Oakville Indian Mounds

Oakville Indian Mounds

Where? 1219 Co Rd 187 Danville, Al 35619. The property is located in Lawrence County, Alabama

Trail Length? You can walk the property, but there isn’t a “trail” so to speak. There are roads, making it easily drivable. You cold potentially hop in and out at the different spots you would like to see.

How hard are we talkin’? Very easy. The whole place is wheelchair accessible except for the ceremonial mound.

Can I swim there? No. You wouldn’t want to anyway. There are no telling how many snakes and turtles are in those waters.

Any other details? There are no pets allowed and this is strictly enforced. This place is part of the local school system and “no pets” is a school board policy. There is no admission, however they do accept donations. There are wetlands on the property, a marshy pond and a picnic area. When you first drive in, the first building you will see is the museum. The museum is full of amazing artifacts! Don’t miss this! It also houses clean restrooms and a souvenir shop.
