Orr Park

Orr Park

Where? Park Drive Montevallo, Alabama 35115 33.0990065, -86.8575472.

What is it? Orr Park is a park and nature preserve situated along a small section of Shoal Creek. The park itself is 40 acres which includes baseball fields, a couple of playgrounds, picnic tables, covered pavilions, a large, beautiful open field and a walking track.

The best part about Orr Park, in my opinion, are the cool tree carvings! In the early 1990’s, Tim Tingle transformed the first of many storm-damaged cedar trees into a work of art and he’s been doing it ever since.

What is there to do here? Pack a picnic, go wading in Shoal Creek or even tubing (although I have no idea where it comes out). Throw some tubes in the creek, see where it takes you and let me know. 🙂 There are two really good playgrounds with swings, slides, monkey bars and play equipment of every kind. There are covered pavilions and a gazebo in case you want shade. There is a huge walking track that follows the tree line and laps the wide open field. The cedar tree carvings are next to the creek. You can follow the sidewalks around to each of them.

Admission? Free

Can I bring my dog? Yes

Is it clean? Yes

Can I swim there? It’s not a swimming hole, but plenty of kids were chest deep in Shoal Creek the day we were there.

Leave no trace: People bring picnics and eat by the creek, which leads to trash inadvertently falling into the creek. Please pick up your trash. Every little bit counts!
