Lula Lake Land Trust

Lula Lake Land Trust

Where? Located in North Georgia, this is a 2 hour and 40 minute drive from Birmginham, Al. Coordinates: 34.9194° N, 85.3862° W  Address: 5000 Lula Lake Rd, Lookout Mountain, GA 30750

What is it? Lula Lake Land Trust is like a nature preserve. It’s 8,000 acres of land set aside for conservation and preservation. This beauty is open the first and last weekends of the month from May-November and occasionally for special events. https://www.lulalake.org will give more details.

Hours: Saturdays: 9:00am-3:30pm

Sundays 12:00pm-3:30pm. Gates close promptly at 5:00pm. Don’t make them drag you outta there.

There are 2 waterfalls, with the bottom fall being massive! We went after a heavy rain and the force of the water and wind from the fall made it impossible to stay dry. I was standing 50 yards from the fall and got soaked. The wind from the falls will take your breath away!

Trail Length? The trail to the falls is 2 miles out and back. There is a steep set of steps leading to the falls, there are other trails as well, that are all short in length and ranging from easy to difficult. I would consider the “old” trail to the bottom of the largest fall, short, but strenuous. If you have bad knees, take your time and be careful. There is a new trail that leads to the bottom of the falls that is also short, but less strenuous.

There is a connector trail that leads to Cloudland Canyon! YES, this gorgeous property backs right up to our favorite Georgia park. Maps are on their website. There are 12-13 other trails in the park that range from .2 miles to 1.6 miles. It’s a very easy place to hike, in general.

How hard are we talkin’? Easy. We saw people of all shapes, sizes and levels of fitness.

Can I swim there? Sadly, no. Not you or your kids or your dogs. There are signs posted everywhere asking you not to swim.

Any other details? There is a 10.00 per vehicle fee to enter. The park hours are relatively short in my opinion, so you won’t be watching any sunsets here, but don’t cry. You can drive to Lookout Mountain only a short distance away and enjoy the view from there.  There is a hangliding rental place at the top with a gorgeous view and great place to watch the sunset.

Leave no trace: This is one of the cleanest place we’ve seen! All the Georgia parks we’ve visited have been great. Please do your part to keep it that way.
