Where? From Trussville, Alabama this is about a 1.5 hour drive. 33.2394273 -85.6435719 1398 Co Rd 5 Lineville, Al 36266<——Do not use GPS with the address. You will end up on impassible dirt roads. This camp is approx. 10 miles from Lineville, Al. Once you arrive in Lineville on AL 9 (don’t blink, not even for a second), you will take Blake’s Ferry Rd. There is a gas station and a couple of other shops next to this road. Travel approx 8 miles on Blake’s Ferry Rd until you reach a 4 way stop. Turn right and travel 2 miles until you pass over a railroad bridge. Take an immediate left at the bottom of the bridge onto New Hope Rd. The camp will be 1 mile down, on the right. These directions are taken directly from their website. www.alabamagoldcamp.com
What is it? This is a place where you can pan for gold. You can be as elaborate or as simple as you’d like in your efforts. You can bring your own equipment such as metal detectors, simple machines that use a water pump powered by gasoline to rinse water over the rocks and sand as you shovel loads of it into the bucket, dredge, dollar tree fish fry baskets, gold mining pans (these can be purchased at their general store for around 6.00 each), or anything else you can think of. In addition to flecks of gold, fossils, indian artifacts and garnet can be found.
How much does it cost? Day passes are 5.00 per person to enter. I don’t think I had to pay for my two boys. I figured out why about 30 minutes into the trip. The 9 year old and 4 year old played in the creek the whole time and couldn’t have cared less about finding gold.
They have rates on their website if you want to rent a dredge. They will even dredge it for you. There are no real rules to how you find the gold. Metal detecting is perfectly acceptable. I didn’t think to bring one though.
Can I swim here? Yes!
Do people really find gold here? Yes! The couple we spoke to had lots of tiny gold flakes. It was really cool. They explained how to lift sand out of the creek bed and slowly sift, that the gold flecks would sink to the bottom.
Can I camp here? You can camp in a prospecting cabin for 75.oo a night or bring your own tent and it’s 5.00 per night, per person with 17 years and under being free.
Are dogs allowed? Yes. They must be tame and not jump all over people or be crotch sniffers or bark ferociously or else they must be kept on a leash at all times. That’s actually just my personal opinion on dogs and life.
Any other details? A liability waiver must be signed at The General Store you pass on your way in. Also at the general store, you can purchase gemstones that have been brought in for those who can’t/don’t find their own. Like, we should have purchased some on our way out.
